The following scholarships are available to current Henry Ford II Instrumental Music students.
Lewis E. Dresch Memorial Music Scholarship
The Lewis E. Dresch Memorial Music Scholarship was established in May 1988 for deserving student musicians. At that time, the Dresch family provided a plaque for the Henry Ford II High School Band Room, with nameplates for winner names to be engraved annually. Scholarships are to be presented annually at either the Spring Banquet or Spring Concert.
Funding of the Scholarship – The Lewis E. Dresch Memorial Fund is funded annually through ticket donations from the Winter & Spring Concerts. The monies will be divided for (4) recipients, and the dollar amount will vary from year to year.
Scholarship-The Lewis E. Dresch Memorial Music Scholarship may be used for the following:
- Any music camp, including Blue Lake, Interlochen, or Henry Ford II Marching Band Camp, or other approved camps
- Private Lessons (with approved instructor)
- Approved music related purchase (Instrument, supplies, music)
Eligibility -The Lewis E. Dresch Memorial Music Scholarship is open to any student who meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled in a music class at Henry Ford II High School
- Participated in MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival
- Has not won previously- Can only be awarded once in the 4 years enrolled at Henry Ford II H.S.
- Audition with outside adjudicator. (HFII directors will not adjudicate so no preferential treatment is given or assumed) You must provide a copy of your music for the judge.
A scholarship will be awarded to one (1) Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and Freshmen at HFII. In the event that no one from a particular grade auditions, two (2) awards will be given to the grade that has the highest number of applicants. For example, if no Seniors audition & four (4) Sophomores audition, two (2) sophomores will be awarded a scholarship, with one (1) going to both a Junior and a Freshmen.
Winners will be determined by the audition. Audition date & time will be announced by the directors. Auditions will be first come, first serve.
Lillian Demas Music Scholarship
The Lillian Demas Music Scholarship was established in May 2003 to honor Henry Ford II High School Principal Lillian Demas, as a means of thanking her for her strong support of the Instrumental Music Program at Henry Ford II High School. The scholarship will be awarded at either the Spring Banquet or the Spring Concert.
Funding of the Scholarship – The Lillian Demas Music Scholarship is funded annually through ticket donations from the Pre-Festival Concert. The Henry Ford II High School Band Boosters will fund the balance for an annual award of $600 for one recipient per year. The Henry Ford II Band Boosters purchased the plaque, with winners’ names to be engraved annually.
Scholarship – The Lillian Demas Music Scholarship may be used for the following:
- Any music camp, including Blue Lake, Interlochen, or Henry Ford II Marching Band Camp, or other approved camps
- Private Lessons (with approved instructor)
- Approved music related purchase (Instrument, supplies, music)
Eligibility – The Lillian Demas Music Scholarship is open to any student who meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled in a music class at Henry Ford II High School
- Participated in MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival, including Chamber Ensemble
- Participated in one of the following MSBOA Events:
* Band Festival, including Symphonic Band, Concert Band & Freshmen Band
* Jazz Band Festival
- Audition with outside adjudicator. (HFII directors will not adjudicate so no preferential treatment is given or assumed) You must provide a copy of your music for the judge.
- May win more than once, but in non-consecutive years. Ex. win as a Sophomore & as a Senior, not in Junior year.
- Past Dresch Scholarship winners are eligible, however both awards cannot be received the same year

Harv Daniel Memorial Music Scholarship
The Harv Daniel Memorial Scholarship was established in December 2018, to honor HFII Instrumental Music Booster Harv Daniel, at his passing, for his countless hours of service to the HFII music program and its students. The scholarship will run for three years from December 2019 through December 2021 or until funding runs out. The application will be available to ALL band students on the HFII Instrumental Music Booster Website, at Henry Ford II High School Open House/Curriculum Night and at all General Membership Meetings in September, October and November of the designated years.
FUNDING- The Harv Daniel Memorial Scholarship Fund is pre-established with donations collected in memorial from friends, fellow band parents and past and present HFII instrumental music boosters. One 300.00 scholarship will be awarded each of the three years (2019, 2020, 2021) to one student. If money still exists after 2021 in the memorial fund, all money will be awarded in 2022 in increments of 50.00 each to as many students as the funds will allow following the same application guidelines as the previous 3 years. There should be no money left in the memorial fund after December 2022 and The Harv Daniel Memorial Scholarship Fund should be closed. Money will be placed in the student’s band account after the scholarship selection is complete each year and no later than December 31st of the same year. Scholarship money will be bound by the following rules:
SCHOLARSHIP- The Harv Daniel Memorial Scholarship may be used for
Any music camp, including Blue Lake, Interlochen, Henry Ford II marching band camp, or other approved marching or music camps
Private lessons (with approved nstructor)
Approved music, equipment or individual/band/marching performance- related purchases (Instrument, band and music supplies, music, music/marching performance supplies and equipment)
Approved music or individual/band/marching performance extracurricular activities within or outside HFII High School (Band Trips, music/marching performance, music/marching competitions, audition fees and expenses, music/marching participation fees and expenses)
ELIGIBILITY- Because Mr. Daniel believed that ALL students were equal and deserved a chance and that ALL students may have different goals and reasons for participating in the music programs at Henry Ford II High School, The Harv Daniel Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by luck of the draw and is open to ANY student who meets the following criteria:
Must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior (establishes commitment and meaning of the music program in the applicant’s life)
Is enrolled in a music class at HFII High School for two (2) years. One of those years can be the same (current) year of application.
Or
Participates in HFII Marching Band for two (2) full season beginning with sectionals in the summer and ending with marching band festival in the fall each year (verified by the band director). One of those years can be the same (current) year of application.
Participates in one (1) of the following events: MSBOA Solo and Ensemble
Festival (including Chamber ensemble), Symphonic Band Festival, Concert
Band Festival, Jazz Band Festival, Jazz Band Weekend, or Marching Band
Festival
Or
Participates in an outside music or marching competition (verification by
private instructor, adjudicator, program instructor or coach required)
Submits a clearly completed application and three (3) short essays with complete answers. Will NOT be judged on writing ability. Must be given directly to the Vice President of the HFII Instrumental Music Boosters or sent directly to the address or email provided on the application. Must
arrive no later than December 1st to be considered for the current year. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the application is successfully delivered to the VP of HFII IMB by the designated date.
Has not won previously- Can only be awarded once per student in their four
years at HFII high school.
